Application and Explanation of Use as a Legal Gateway

Each Children’s Services Authority has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of any child who is being looked after by the LA (Referred to as a Child in Care, or Looked After Child). This includes a duty to promote the child’s educational achievement and should make note of the child’s religious persuasion, racial origin and cultural and linguistic background.This ‘corporate parenting’ duty applies to the LA, its elected members, employees and partner agencies to provide the best possible care and safeguarding for any Looked After Child.
